Pilling is an undesirable phenomenon that affects the handle and the appearance of garments. Pill formation on a fabric surface follows four stages: fuzz forming, fuzz entanglement, pill forming and pill wear-off. A considerable degree of success in controlling pilling has been obtained through studies of the effects of yarn and fabric variables on pilling of knitgoods. However relatively little attention has been devoted to paper pilling of worsted fabrics.
