The 12th International Techtextil Symposium accompa-nies the 10th Techtextil Fair which took place for the first time 17 years ago. For this birthday the number of exhibitors has quadrupled to over 830, with as against the first event in 1986, some three times as many visitors. When setting up the specialist fair for Technical Textiles and Non-wovens, one was certainly not able to evaluate in this way the development of production and application areas in this field, and today too, we face new perspectives and challenges. The demand for technical textiles remains unbroken worldwide, bound up with growth rates which lie far above overall developments in the textile industry. The production share of technical textiles makes up over 40% within the German textile industry. In recent years, textile innovations have taken place correspondingly above all in the technical textiles subsector.
