The Arrangement signed at Hong Kong on June 29 speci-fies that Mainland China shall from January 1 next apply a zero tariff to 273 imported items of Hong Kong origin. All other items of Hong Kong origin will enter the Mainland duty-free not later than January 1, 2006. At the same time trade in services is to be liberalised in 17 sectors: Management consulting; Convention services; Advertising; Accounting; Construction and real estate; Medical and dental; Distribution and Logistics; Freight forwarding agency and Storage and warehousing services; Transport; Tourism; Audiovisual; Legal; Banking; Securities and Insurance. Furthermore "with a view to further strengthening economic and trade cooperation" between the two parties, cooperation is envisaged in seven areas: Trade and Investment Promotion. 1. Customs clearance facilitation. Quarantine and inspection of commodities, especially in the field of food safety and quality assurance. 2. Electronic commerce. 3. Transparency in laws and regulations. 4. Cooperation between small and medium enterprises. 5. Cooperation ― information sharing, development strategy and the like ― in the field of Chinese medicine and medical products.
