When we think of knitted fabric, we think first of elas-tic textiles with comfortable wearing properties, as used in the clothing sector. But knitted fabrics have also been enjoying widespread use in technical applications for over 20 years. These include upholstery covers in cars as well as in the furniture industry, where circular knitted fabrics have long since held an established position. Here it is primarily the technologically complex plush circular knitting machines which produce dense, hard-wearing and ultra-fine plush qualities for this type of application. But this was only the beginning. It is an undisputed fact that circular knitting generally represents the most economical method of manufacturing textile surfaces, making it only logical that knitted technical fabrics will be produced increasingly in the future using circular knitting machines. Today technical textiles are produced on looms and warp knitting machines in precisely the same way as on flat and circular knitting machines. For design-related reasons, each of these machine groups manufactures woven and knitted constructions with their own quite individual features, from which in turn specific fields of application are derived.
