Over the past decade, the use of textiles had moved beyond the clothing industry to applications in medicine, building, infrastructural work and elsewhere. The progress made to date in use of textile technology for reconstructive surgery was reviewed in Textile Asia for June 1997 at p. 47. Further advance has since followed, especially in the use of nonwovens. Drs Ko and Laurencin here update the use of three-dimensional fibrous scaffolds for tissue engineering
