a) Indian Textile Industry is one of the leading textile industries in the world and has an overwhelming presence in the economic life of the country. Textile industry contributes about 14% to industrial production, 6% to the GDP, and 17% to the country's export earnings. It employs 35 million strong work force. b) Government of India, National Textile Policy, Vision Document projects Indian textile and apparel exports to grow from $39 billion to $300 billion by 2025. This is a challenging task. This translates into immediate additional investment required of the order of Rs 50,000 crores and in the process around 35 million additional jobs creation is expected to take place.
