India is an emerging player in the global arena of textile industry. Speaking at the Global Textile Opportunities - Vision India Conference, Mr Man Mohan said that with many avenues to capture in coming times, India has a bright future to look onto and emerge as a leading contributor to world textiles. Mr Man Mohan said that although tough global financial conditions arouses dubious prospects for future growth, if we focus on the long term global fibre consumption patterns, fair growth of 5% is evident over the next 7 years. Demand for textiles and other emerging areas of consumption like technical textiles would come up as a silver lining for the textile industry. In this rising demand, man made fibres, finding use in diversified applications,would grab the lion's share of 67% by 2015, from the current level of 62%.rnIndian textile and Clothing Industry is moving in tandem with the global growth rate. Even though, it has a strong base, Indian textile and clothing exports are still a miniscule 4% of global exports.
