The Reliance Group of India, headed by Mr Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani envisions itself to be a global energy major. RIL's oil and gas exploration and production business is inexorably linked with the national imperative, as RIL will produce gas, which will lessen the import of crude oil. India currently imports two third of its current crude oil requirement. Exploration and production of oil and gas is critical for India's energy security and economic growth. Exploration and production, the initial link in the energy and materials value chain, remains a major growth area.
