Mayer & Cie. sold more circular knitting machines to India in 2003 than ever before. And it is not only the number one knitting machine manufacturer which has recognized the enormous and growing potential of the Indian market for the future. According to the DHL-McKinsey Apparel and Textile Trade Report, India could be the big winner after China with the end of the quota restrictions from 2005 onwards. The report forecasts that India has the potential to increase its share by up to 40 % of the global textile and apparel industry to USD 16 billion by 2008. At the ITME 2004, held from 4 -11 December 2004 in Mumbai, Mayer & Cie. followed up the current sales boom in Relanit circular knitting machines with striping attachment. On show was be the single jersey Relanit 1.6 R with its patented 6-colour strip- ing attachment. This machine can naturally also be used to produce 8-colour stripes. The high-performance Relanit 3.2 II was also on show, featuring a new small open-width frame.
