This article compares the two main contemporary techniques of yarn plying - ring and two-for-one twisting - pinpointing some subtle differences in the quality of the yarns produced. The effects of the plying technique on the plied yarn properties are assessed and the influence of secondary twist within the frames of both techniques is demonstrated.
