Throughout the past decade, the environmental impact of manufacturing processes has been a cause of increasing concern, in all countries of the world. Overseas purchasers often demand the highest international environmental standards from local manufacturers. Thus, the protection of the environment has become as important as the need for foreign earnings, and in response, many countries have imposed severe restrictions on environmental pollution. Industry is often told it must "clean up or close down."
