One of the world's greatest names in weaving machine technology, the Belgian manufacturer Picanol, has reported on-target sales and profits growth during the first half of this year. However, continuing overcapacity in the weaving machine sector generally — with the attendant pressure on prices — and the effects of the Asian economic crisis have led the firm to take a cautious view of the rest of the year, warning that its own production capacity may not be fully utilised.
