In the US, Lindau-based Dornier has a 50% share of rapier and projectile weaving machines, although in air-jets, only about 5% of the market. In total the company has about a 20% share of the total. Of the 320 or so Dornier weaving machines sold in the US last year, sales and communications manager Egon Wirth estimates around 250 were in the jacquard version. In Europe, the company has a strong position in respect of production of highly-finished, industrial and technical fabrics, a specialised field In which it has little competition. Small steps in improving the overall performance of the weaving machine are currently the focus of this machine builder.
