Traditionally wadded materials have been used in garments intended specifically to protect a person from cold. This, in its own way is effective, but such garments that depend largely on entrapped air to insulate are bulky and restrictive, even with the lost modern lightweight materials. Coming in to a warm room from a below-zero environment means that very quickly a person has either to remove or, at least, Ventilate' the garment as the body quickly overheats.
