Usually to look at art you visit a museum or a gallery, the me Collectors Room in Berlin is none of these. On 1,300 square metres directly in the Berliner Gallery District on the Auguststraße, the art collector Thomas Ulbricht has been presenting his extensive collection since 2010. What is fascinating about it: instead of a didactic, art history aligned collection, it is a subjective compilation of works from the Renaissance to the present, with contemporary exhibits from artists like Elmgreen & Dragset, Andreas Gursky and Cindy Sherman up to the ethnological scurrilities like shrunken heads or conserved beetles (in the Olbricht Cabinet of Wonders in the first storey).
