The garment industry expects a growth of 12 to 15 per cent a year with the abolition of excise duty on branded garments in the Union Budget The garments industry is worth about Rs.2 lakh crore with exports accounting for Rs.60,000 crore - Rs.70,000 crore. The industry was in the throes of a crisis and this lifeline was desperately needed to bring back some vigour to this beleaguered sector, said Rahul Mehta, President theGothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI).
