The power loom workers of Ichalkaranji, a town situated in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, better known as the Manchester of Maharashtra, and home to one of the oldest textile industries in the country on 28.02.2013 called off a historic 37-day strike on a triumphant note. The strike also marked a rare example of unity among all the labour unions in the country, setting political differences aside. Interestingly, except for the Left parties, none of the political parties came out in support of the workers' demands initially. It was only after a month into the strike that other parties took a note of it.
