India has nearly halved raw silk imports from China in the last five years with the goal to bring it down to zero level in less than a decade, a top official of Central Silk Board (CSB) recently. The dependence on China was to the extent of 10,000 tonnes annually five years ago and it had now been reduced to around 5.700 tonnes, the CSB Member-Secretary Ishita Roy said. "We want to bring it down to a level of zero. By 2022. we will bring it to zero (import of raw silk from China)", she told reporters, in the presence of Chairman of CSB N. S. Bisse Gowda.
