There has been a growing awareness to save environment, so a research on natural dyes was undertaken to see the effect of mordants and mordanting method on natural dye - Ixora coccinea. Different mordants were used for the study and the dyed samples were subjected to colour fastness tests to washing and light. All the dyed samples ranked very fair to good in washing fastness and light fastness. Pre-mordanting method was found to be the best with all the three mordants used in this study. Variation in colours were found with different mordants and mordanting methods.
