To be elected as the president of the IAEA at the AGM in May was a tremendous honour and privilege. As I received the chain of office from our outgoing president Chris Jones, I was struck by how many past presidents I have had the privilege of working with or being influenced by. It is a reminder to me of the important traditions of this office, which I will uphold. I take over from Chris, who made an outstanding contribution to the Institute during his term of office and led the important piece of work of delivering the AQP competency examination together with the education team. This work has undoubtedly been a resounding success and has clearly raised our profile within the greater industry at large.
