Tech giant Baidu has secured 40 licenses to test driverless cars carrying passengers on designated roads in Beijing. Its self-driving cars have travelled about 1.8 million miles during tests in 23 Chinese cities to date. Additionally, Baidu has signed a strategic partnership with Geely and is also collaborating with Chinese state-owned car company FAW Group. Baidu also has a two-year partnership with Ford to test self-driving vehicles on Chinese roads and has a deal in place with Volvo to develop autonomous electric vehicles specifically for the Chinese market.
