The industry that we work in and the technology that we work with is developing at at rapid pace; the question that comes to mind when thinking about CPD is how can our learning keep pace with the change? Can we learn all we need to in 30 hours each year, can we learn faster? Do we need to spend more time on CPD or do we need to find ways to learn more efficiently? What can we do to learn faster and more efficiently? The best place to start looking for answers to these questions is to look back and identify the time that we could learn new skills or information quickly. For most people this was back when they were a child, back at school, these were the times when we could learn another language, learn algeabra, learn a new song, a dance routine or a sport quickly and relatively pain free. So what is the secret, the most frequent response is probably age, but is there something about the environment we learned in when we were school age that we can take and recreate today? When talking about environment, we need to consider the physical environment as well as our emotional state. As a child there were no other demands on our time, we were curious, learning was fun (well, most of the time), we were invested in the learning experience and keen to use this new information.
