You've probably all noticed that vehicle bumpers are more sophisticated than ever before, and possibly hide a host of sensor devices in and around areas that are designed to deform in certain ways for pedestrian protection. For the insurer and repairer of today these present a challenge. For both parties it is usually better to repair the bumper (dependent on extent of damage) rather than replace it unless, of course, as a brand retailer bodyshop you are able to retain the parts margin, but even then your Labour margin may be better. But taking the decision to repair rather than replace is difficult on many bumpers. Will the paint build affect the sensors? In many cases the answer is 'yes'. Will the repair itself affect the sensors? This may depend on the chosen repair method. What about the pedestrian protection; will that be compromised by a repair? Equally possible, but not necessarily.
