摘要

Sadly, in our world, not everyone can be trusted and where rules are not followed the 'bad boys' gain and then the 'good guys' lose. Usually that's a short term situation and the 'bad boys' eventually get caught out with their reputation tarnished. The problem is, as an industry, we usually 'all get tarred with the same brush'. I agree completely with all Alan has said in the two articles relating to 'Code Wars' and clearly something needs to be done to restore faith back in the Code and salvage disposal by insurers. As with most things that succeed, keep it simple. The Code is like a gentleman's agreement' and this Government is unlikely to bring in regulation to cover the Code. I don't think we want that anyway. Therefore the Code in itself needs to be robust and take out the opportunity for abuse. So as a thought: 1. Simply have two categories,'scrap' and 'repair'. 2. Demand that in every case where an insurer takes over the salvage in a claim settlement that the V5C has a clear marker to warn the prospective purchaser that it is a repaired write-off and for HPI, Experian etc to declare this upon enquiry. 3. Encourage insurers to include within the policy the right to retain the salvage.
