Global mining houses have spent tens of millions of dollars and up to four years installing and implementing new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and yet are under-utilising their full potential. Many mining organisations will 'go live' in 1999 as they switch off their legacy computer systems and fire up newly-installed ERPs. Mining companies have implemented ERP systems to typically address three needs. These needs are to be Year 2000 compliant, to better monitor and control costs in a tight commodity price market place, and to compliment corporate business improvement programs.
