Cruising in level flight in a new Garmin G3000-equipped Piper M600 turboprop somewhere over central Kansas, I pulled up on the hinged cover that guards the Emergency Autoland switch, pressed it and folded my arms. With full command turned over to the aircraft, or more precisely to the group of envelope protection systems that Garmin calls Autonomi, the system set climb power and hustled the M600 to a higher altitude, having already calculated the nearest suitable airport to shoot a precision approach to landing. After intercepting and flying a flawless GPS approach to the New Century Airport (and lowering the landing gear and wing flaps), the aircraft tightly held approach speed, tracked the centerline into the flare, greased the touchdown and applied smooth differential braking to a stop.
