When global brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev (A-B InBev) revealed in January that it was producing its popular Michelob Ultra beer in 'low-carbon' cans, it highlighted another aspect of how sustainability in manufacturing operations is being used as a tool to burnish the corporate image of the major brands and their packaging suppliers. It also put the spotlight on how aluminium cans are produced and recycled. Sustainability is both a corporate responsibility issue - reaching into the realms of protecting the environment, supporting communities, and improving diversity in workforces - and a process of reducing energy consumption which is increasingly from renewable sources.
