Nobody expects an easy ride when they're made an executive of a canmaker, but Maik Lucas was hit with a triple whammy when he took the reins at beverage can manufacturer Helvetia last year. Barely a few weeks after he joined the German company as chief financial officer - and a few months before he was additionally anointed as the new chief exectuvie - Lucas had to begin girding the company for the coronavirus pandemic. Not only that, lockdowns were likely to make more difficult his aim of building a new manufacturing team. And on top of that, the newcomer to canmaking found himself in an industry that was undergoing a transformation as demand for its products surged.
