A bean canning plant that opened at Houston, Texas, in April is part of a $250 million investment in global expansion by Goya Foods to support consumer demand for its 'healthy' product lines. Goya claims to be the only Hispanic food company that offers consumers an entire line of low sodium, organic, diet and sugar free products. It says that four new manufacturing production and distribution facili-ties in Texas, Georgia, California and New Jersey will help strengthen the brand throughout the US and internationally, including in Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia. "With the growing Hispanic population and the need for good nutrition, it's an opportune time for Goya to expand," said Bob Unanue, president of Goya Foods, which is based at Secau-cus, New Jersey.
