New Zealand-based vegetable canner Wattie's has launched a range of four canned pulse products, sold in cans supplied by Ardagh. Following on from the success of its range of legumes canned in spring water launched late last year, the food canner, owned by HJ Heinz, has now introduced cans of four different pulses in tomato-based sauces. Sold in 400-gram cans, the range includes Moroccan-style chickpeas; Indian-style lentils; Mexican-style red kidney beans; and Italian-style cannellini beans. Wattie's nutritionist Julie North said: "Legumes are one of the oldest, most nutritionally-sound, inexpensive and convenient foods available, and are perfect for people who want good taste and good nutrition with a minimum of fuss."
