The continuing deflationary spiral of the Japanese economy is now universally attributed to the inability of the country's politicians to reach a consensus on how best to combat this crisis. Dur- ing these severe economic times, planners and creators of packaged and canned goods must work harder than ever to create attractive products that appeal to the consumer. The need for design- ing items with eye appeal is particularly essential in the packaging and merchandising of canned beer and beverages. The importance of innovating the technology of can decoration is discussed.
