Following rigorous ergonomic analysis of the problem a solution was developed and implemented using good engineering design principles. Having fabrication facilities and skills available in-house can be of great benefit in delivering novel and bespoke solutions for the hospital. Success would not have been possible without flexibility from all involved particularly the staff in the ICU. Hospital personnel were always consulted and their feedback sought and encouraged - meaning that all participants in the project and end users were always part of the same team.
