In the course of export of precision machinery (printers), broken packaging and/or damaged products have occurred during the transport by air. long--distance truck, and/or parcel service. In response to this, packaging has been redesigned to simultaneously satisfy the requirements for im- proved protection of products. reinforced packaging, and enhanced transport efficiency. As for the improvement of protection of products and reinforcement of packaging, with the in- tention to apply more tight specifications to packaging tests commonly throughout all involved companies, and to withstand three-stacks resonance point vibration. materials have been reviewed and dimensional tolerances have been improved. As a typical design, foam material was used for cushioning material. However, taking into con- sideration the ease of disposition after use, use of the foam material was limited to a required mini- mum to allow capable separation from other materials. The separation from other materials was achieved by elaborated part design and adopted slip-in system. For the enhancement of transport efficiency, optimum packaging geometry and dimensions were adopted based on the experiences in maritime containers and large trucks. Then, allowable maxi- mum number of products for 4Orv container was substantially increased to l44 from the existing 68. The new packaging passed the tests and it was adopted in May this year.
