摘要

Sometimes, your life's work and commitment really do come in an epiphany. For A. Elizabeth Watson, it was during an architectural history course she took as an elective at Wake Forest during the early 1970s. "I can still picture some of those slides," she says today. "I love history" - she was majoring in the subject - "but it wasn't till I took an art history course that I could see history in a landscape." A couple of years later, during graduate school at Pennsylvania State University, she took a summer program run by the University of Florida on Nantucket. There she learned the preservationist's trade, "very formal -how to do the drawings, building surveys and the like." That coursework supported her masters in regional planning at Penn State, where, when she first picked up the catalog - but I'll let her tell the story.
