What comes into your mind when you think of the colour grey? I guess it would be things like 'winter skies', 'dull wet weather' and so on. Certainly grey as a colour is generally seen as drab and sombre, and yet this is the shade the majority of street light columns and lanterns (in the UK) are painted.rnSurely if we are going to stick metal posts into the ground along our streets every 30 to 40 metres, we should show consideration as to how they fit in with the surrounding landscape? I write this from an artist's perspective and am very aware how often grey-painted lampposts are detrimental to the look of the environment. I can only assume that grey is chosen as a 'neutral' colour and supposedly a 'safe' choice.
