Airports are in operation 24/7 365 days a year, so lighting maintenance is a particular issue, if costly disruption and shut-downs are to be avoided. So when WSP Consulting Engineers came to specify new street lighting for the forecourt at Aberdeen Airport, to replace the existing 30-year old scheme, they had to find a fitting that was virtually maintenance-free. Good colour rendering and high uniformity were also crucial considerations - poor quality light is unacceptable in sensitive locations where security staff require good visual recognition.
