As many of you at Thomas Cook will already be aware, instead of stowing my money in a piggy bank during these uncertain times, I decided it would be far wiser to bury my head in the sand for five months on board Derry-Londonderry, or the 'Ferry from Derry'as I now fondly know her. I started from zero previous experience but after my fleet manager enviously signed me off I underwent four weeks of mandatory training. I'll start by trying to build up a picture before I inevitably start meandering. It's day 17. We've left the East China Sea, passed the Luzon Strait north of the Philippines and are beating up the east coast of Taiwan.
