Dr Bennett's letter in the June/July issue of The Log made an excellent case for much-needed extra runway capacity in the UK. I appreciate the thrust of his argument was for a new runway and not a comparison with the Thames estuary proposals, but he spoiled the whole piece by condemning the estuary airport plans with one sentence:'This country cannot afford the £50 billion... it will cost to build an airport in a stormy and bird-saturated estuary.'
