Dear Fellow Mathematicians, Let me at the outset express my idebtedness to you for offering the unique Opportunity of the presidential address at the 61st Annual Conference of the IMS. In this address I wish to report our encounters (many times not so successful) Against some unsolved questions in the areas of Baer *-Rings, AW*-algebras, Ordered Sets, Lattices, Hilbert Space Operators, Geometry of Banach Spaces, Special Function Theory and Univalent Function Theory.
