The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) wants IMO to give greater priority to developing a global system for monitoring and reporting of carbon emissions from ships. ICS says that MEPC will be discussing this at its next session beginning on 31 March. ICS has made a detailed submission to MEPC on the issue on behalf of its member national shipowners' associations. Mr Bennett said: "ICS believes that the question of whether IMO should eventually develop a mandatory system of energy indexing for existing ships - to which ICS is currently opposed - should be left open until after a CO2 emissions reporting system has been established, trialed, and the results evaluated."
