Waertsilae has announced a higher-output version of its dual fuel four-stroke 34DF engine, for which lower fuel consumption and improved environmental performance are also claimed. According to Waertsilae, the 340F has achieved a leading position in the offshore support vessel market, with additional references in tugs, ferries, ro-ro, ro-pax and workboats. The upgraded version increases efficiency in both liquid and gas operating modes. The extra power means that the engine now achieves up to 500kW/cylinder, giving the 34DF a power output coverage of 2.9MW to 8MW. In addition to the increase in power, fuel economy is enhanced, especially in liquid fuel mode.
