Wartsila has announced the signing of a turnkey contract with Finnish shortsea operator Containerships Oy, for the retrofit of a fresh water scrubber system to ship Containerships VII.According to Wartsila, the installation of scrubbers is a major step in the introduction of exhaust gas cleaning technology for maritime applications. The Wartsila scrubber will enable the vessel to meet future emission requirements in ECAs in an economical way. Wartsila claims to be the first manufacturer to have been awarded the certification for scrubber systems by the classification societies Det Norske Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd.
