How things change. The December 1960 issue of 'The Motor Ship' responded to a UK government proposal, that the country's diverse shipbuilding industry be reorganised into larger groups, by suggesting that too many companies built marine engines. It compared the UK, with 37 shipyards and 18 engine builders, with the next two most important shipbuilding nations - Japan (18 yards and five engine builders) and Germany (17 yards and four engine builders).
