The current range of separators from Alfa Laval is, according to the company, geared to reducing the environmental impact of ships. The marine environmental portfolio is grouped together under the collective name of 'Pure Thinking Solutions'. Environmental issues are important in fuel and lube oil too, with the current and forthcoming sulphur emissions limits. The S separator was introduced a few years ago, primarily for the cleaning of heavy fuel oils, and was later joined by the P separator intended for use with lubricating oils and distillate fuel oils. The two products are intended to be used together, with the option of automatic control, to provide a flexible, versatile and cost-efficient solution to onboard oil treatment.
