In 2018, the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) received funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance's Innovations in Community-Based Crime Reduction (CBCR) Program (now called the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program or BCJI) to reduce gunshot victimization and violent crime in the East Price Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. One of the primary components of CPD's BCJI project is to expand CCROW (Cincinnati Citizens Respect Our Witnesses) victim and witness services in the target area. CCROW is staffed by licensed social workers and interns from local colleges' social work programs who offer services to witnesses, including referrals to counseling or community agencies; accompaniment to court proceedings; and, when necessary, assistance with rehousing.
