Everyone has read about drones, and many people know someone who flies one as a hobby. As drones become more prevalent, leaders need to know if their officers know what to do if they're on patrol and see a drone buzzing around somewhere it shouldn't be, perhaps near a group of people, an airport runway, or a sports event. Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) or drone use has increased dramatically in recent years. Most of these new unmanned aircraft owners are individuals who are completely new to the aviation experience. They aren't necessarily traditional model airplane operators who are members of local clubs that teach and require compliance with safety guidelines and rules.
