One of the biggest changes to this year's winter timetable is on East Midlands Trains, where journey times over the Midland Main Line are being shortened after the investment of £70million by Network Rail in track upgrading, resignalling and alignment work. Sections of the MML have been upgraded to permit 125mph running for the first time and, as a result, the fastest journey between Sheffield and London will be two hours, while average times get a seven-minute cut to 2hr 10min. Times from Derby, Nottingham and Leicester all see reductions. There's also a new 10.16 Corby-London service, created by extending the 09.00 St Pancras to Kettering.
