Charter organisers Matt Allen and Warwick Falconer created a boat trains event, having being inspired by The Railway Magazine's Ocean Liner Expresses feature (April 2013). The scenario was that of a South West Main Line closure between Winchester and Basingstoke, resulting in trains being diverted over the Mid-Hants route, including all the named expresses. Such diversions did actually take place in BR steam days. Researching and reproducing the headboards turned into a much bigger project than anticipated. "Colour photos of boat train headboards are not easy to come by and we had a few sleepless nights," Matt told The RM, but it all came together at the Mid-Hants Railway on November 23, the boards employed being 'The Cunarder', 'Sitmar Line', 'Holland-American', 'Atlantic Coast Express','Royal Wessex' and 'Union Castle Express'.
