The Ribble Steam Railway diesel shunter event on October 5-6 saw a couple of interesting items on static display in addition to the prototype Deltic (RM Dec p76). North British 27653 of 1956 is an 0-4-0DH that worked at BICC's Prescot site near Liverpool. It was declared surplus in the 1980s and secured for preservation in 1988. During restoration, engine defects were encountered but once those had been rectified, it was the transmission that caused problems. No. 27653 (known as'BICC') arrived at the RSR in March 1999 and after changing owners it suffered further engine problems, but has been receiving attention to return it to operation again, and has been repainted in its original livery.
