The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has agreed to sell out-of-ticket USATC S160 2-8-0 No. 2253 to Peter Best - the man who sold it to the railway! The 1943 Baldwin-built S160 ran for the LNER for 18 months before going to France. Operated by USATC from September 1944 until 1947/48, it then entered Polish State Railway's stock until withdrawal in the late 1980s. Mr Best (Steam Power Services) bought it after NYMR supporters found it dumped in Poland and, by October 1992, it was back in steam, running on the NYMR. It was withdrawn in 2000 and as it slipped down the overhaul queue, it was bought by the NYMR but subsequently offered for sale.
